Our Methodology
We use a contribution margin-first approach to determine exactly what you can afford to pay for a customer without going into the red.
Break-even ROAS
Most calculators treat ROAS as a fixed number. We calculate it based on your actual Contribution Margin. If your margin is 30%, you need a 3.33x ROAS across the board just to make $0 profit.
ROAS = Gross Revenue / Ad SpendMax Profitable CPA
The absolute dollar amount you can pay to acquire a customer. If your CPA exceeds this number, you are literally paying money to give your product away.
Max CPA = Selling Price - Variable CostsThe Formula
Step 1: Calculate Contribution Margin
Contribution Margin = Selling Price - (COGS + Shipping + Packaging + Fees + Refund Allowance)
Step 2: Calculate Economics
Break-even ROAS = Selling Price / Contribution Margin

Why high ROAS can still lose money
If your shipping and COGS are too high, even a 5.0x ROAS won't save you. We account for hidden costs like Shopify's payment fees and the "refund impact" (the cost of shipping items that come back). This gives you the "Truth ROAS" instead of the vanity metric in your dashboard.
